Our vision at Eagles Rising is to equip disadvantaged youth to discover and attain their life’s purpose. In simple terms, it means that we re-parent disadvantaged youths. We believe God wants to start a parenting movement in Africa. We see no other way to address the crisis among our youth. Just recently the United Nations estimated that by the time South Africans revel in the soccer fare of the 2010 Soccer World Cup, 40 million children will have been orphaned by AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. You can change this, one young person at a time. Simply adopt and mentor one of our students in prayer, provision or relationship building.

Average profile of our students
Can you imagine:

•Living in a one-roomed shack with 10 other people with no water or ablution facilities;
•Only one member of your family being employed once or twice a week, and that at minimum wage (R80 or US$10 per day);
•Being emotionally, physically and sexually abused at a young age. Some of our students have been gang-raped;
•Having no food in the house, ever;
•Not knowing how to cook on a real stove, how to properly close a door, how to clean a bathroom, because you have never had any of these;
•Failing in job interviews because of a lack of life experiences and communication skills;
•Having never learnt social skills like how to present oneself in a restaurant;
•Being under such pressure because of severe deprivation, poverty, that you have no energy to excel at school;
•Having no place study or improve oneself.

Adoption
This is of course not an official adoption, but a commitment to mentor one of our students.

How?
Through prayer, and/or financial support, and/or mentoring through relationship building and correspondence. We can supply you with a list of candidates as well as their financial needs per month. It costs us R2000 (US$290) per month to host one student. Different financial aid packages are available, from as little as contributing R50 per month towards transport costs.
